Day 30: Holding On

I held you tightly in between my fingertips,

hoping you wouldn't slip out of my reach.

Grasping you essence in the palms of my hands,

and as our souls danced to song of solitude,

the wind blew away our worries.

But these light bodies that carry our past lives

become so full and so heavy,

we become out own anchors.

Stuck in our own mud,

slipping away in the quicksand,

we become bound to that which is only

holding us back.

We merge our past with our future into the present

and hold our trauma in our arms like a newborn baby.

So afraid of letting go,

afraid that we will lose ourselves,

so we find comfort in chaos.

And our tongues become toiled with words we will not say

because we are scared to speak our truth.

Because bondage is so deeply ingrained in our roots.

So, I've learned to hold on.

To make space for things that no longer fit.

Why do I grip so tightly?

Holding on to things to keep me boxed in...
